Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are among the most popular types of cosmetic dental enhancements in the world. They are commonly seen on a wide variety of music idols, movie stars, and other notable people. Dental veneers can correct for a wide variety of cosmetic dental issues, while still being relatively easy to apply. They are also strong, and can last for years without issue.
What Are Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin layers of material, usually either porcelain or resin, which are bonded directly to the outside of each tooth. Veneers are custom-molded to fit each patient’s teeth, and can be hand-crafted to customize a person’s smile exactly as they would like it. In this way, veneers can cover up and correct for a wide variety of cosmetic dental problems, including chips, cracks, gaps, misalignments, discoloration, and more.
When properly made and applied, veneers are as strong as natural teeth and look very natural. In addition, they are easier to apply and less intrusive than other forms of cosmetic correction such as crowns, braces, or implants.
What Types of Veneers Are There?
Nearly all veneers are made of either porcelain or a composite resin.
Porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers are the more popular option, because they are stronger, more natural-looking, and more resistant to staining. Porcelain veneers will require at least two clinic visits to attach because they must be custom-fabricated at an offsite laboratory.
Resin veneers
Resin veneers are less expensive and easier to apply, because they can be crafted by the dentist right in the office. In most cases, they can be applied in a single visit. However, being less strong and more prone to damage, they will need to be replaced more frequently.
Who Can Get Veneers?
Dental veneers are suitable for a wide variety of patients, but they do have limitations. The patient needs to have most of their tooth in place, and with most of the front enamel intact. Also, there cannot be any serious tooth or gum disease present.
